Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2026

1. No File Uploads

Unlike other online PDF utilities, The PDF Mechanic operates entirely inside your web browser ("client-side"). Your files are never uploaded to, processed on, or saved to our servers. All document processing—including merging, compression, and conversion—takes place strictly on your local device.

2. Data Collection & Processing

Because processing runs locally on your hardware, we have no mechanism to view or access your documents, invoices, bank statements, or any personal data contained within your PDFs. We do not collect, harvest, or store personal user information. We may utilize anonymized analytics (such as Google Analytics) to monitor general website traffic patterns, but this tracking never includes or associated with file contents.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

Our website utilizes browser local storage solely to remember your UI preference (Dark/Light mode). We do not deploy cross-site tracking cookies or use cookies for targeted behavioral advertising.

4. Google API & Third-Party Cloud Integrations

The PDF Mechanic provides optional, direct integration with external cloud storage services, specifically **Google Drive** and **Dropbox**, allowing you to seamlessly import files for processing. When you choose to use these features:

  • Explicit Consent: We only access specific user-selected files after you explicitly authenticate and choose a file via the official Google Picker or Dropbox Chooser systems.
  • No Server-side Transmission: The contents of any file retrieved from Google Drive or Dropbox are loaded directly into your browser's temporary sandbox memory (RAM). This data is never sent, uploaded, or saved to any external servers.
  • Google Limited Use Compliance: The PDF Mechanic's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

We respect international privacy frameworks, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • User Rights: Since we never collect, store, or transmit your private files or personal identifiers, there is no historical record of your data on our systems for us to delete, modify, or export. Your right to privacy is preserved by design.
  • Information Sharing: We do not lease, trade, sell, or otherwise transfer your private data or document contents to any third parties.
